Course Programme

Component 1

Scene Safety and Patient Assessment

The purpose of this component is to evaluate the learner’s knowledge and skills in relation to scene safety and assessment. It aims to assess their understanding and ability to ensure a safe environment in emergency situations and to effectively assess the scene for potential hazards and risks.

Component 2

Emergency Trauma

The objective of component two is to assess the learner’s knowledge and skills in responding to a variety of life-threatening emergencies. It aims to evaluate their understanding and ability to effectively handle critical situations that require immediate and potentially life-saving interventions.

  • Be able to provide treatment to an unresponsive patient
  • Be able to manage an airway obstructed by a foreign body
  • Be able to provide treatment to a patient experiencing catastrophic haemorrhage
  • Know how to provide treatment to a patient who is experiencing shock
  • Be able to provide treatment to a patient experiencing anaphylaxis

Component 3

Responding to Illnesses and Medical Conditions

The purpose of component three is to assess the learner’s knowledge and skills in responding to a variety of illnesses and medical conditions. It aims to evaluate their understanding and ability to provide appropriate care and support for individuals experiencing different health issues.

  • Be able to provide treatment to a patient with a suspected respiratory condition
  • Be able to provide treatment to a patient with a suspected cardiovascular condition
  • Be able to provide treatment to a patient with a suspected neurological condition
  • Be able to manage a patient experiencing a diabetic emergency
  • Know how to provide treatment to a patient affected with sudden poisoning
  • Be able to administer oxygen therapy

Component 4

Responding to Injuries

The purpose of this component is to assess the learner’s knowledge and skills in responding to a variety of injuries. It aims to evaluate their understanding and ability to provide appropriate care and support for individuals who have sustained injuries.

  • Be able to provide treatment to a patient with minor injuries
  • Be able to provide treatment to a patient with a wound
  • Be able to provide treatment to a patient experiencing bleeding
  • Be able to provide treatment to a patient with burns and scalds
  • Be able to treat a patient with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints.
  • Be able to treat a patient with suspected head and spinal injuries
  • Understand how to treat a patient with suspected chest injuries
  • Understand the management of abdominal injuries
  • Understand when clinical intervention is needed for the management of injuries.

Course Description:

This qualification not only meets but also exceeds all the requirements of the Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work. As a result, it opens up opportunities for further learning and employment that often require the Level 3 Award as a prerequisite.

Learners who successfully complete this qualification can progress to other qualifications within the FutureQuals First Responder on Scene Qualification Suite. The previously achieved components of this qualification can be applied towards the other qualifications, meaning learners only need to complete the remaining components.
